Two men charged, cars confiscated over alleged street racing — St Ives

An off-duty officer is one of two men to be charged and have their cars confiscated following an alleged street racing incident in Sydney’s north overnight.

Police from Kuring-Gai Local Area Command were patrolling Mona Vale Road, St Ives, overnight following reports of modified vehicles travelling east at speed.

Shortly before 11pm officers will allege they detected a black Ford Falcon utility and white Mitsubishi Lancer travelling at speeds up to 100km/h in a 60km/h area.

The vehicles were stopped and the male drivers, both aged 27, were issued with Field Court Attendance Notices to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Thursday 2 April 2009.

Both men have been charged with take part in race between vehicles, exceed speed limit, and negligent driving.

Their driver’s licences were suspended and their vehicles confiscated.

The off-duty officer is a senior constable attached to a local area command in the North West Metropolitan Region.

His alleged actions will also become the subject of the normal NSW Police Force internal disciplinary procedures.
