Youth arrested, police conduct inquiries after man placed on life support following assault — Canada Bay

A 16-year-old youth is assisting with inquiries into a suspected assault at Canada Bay, in Sydney’s inner-west, which has left a man critically injured in hospital.
Police from Burwood Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance personnel attended a derelict house on Bayview Road about 6.15pm yesterday after receiving reports a 19-year-old man was unconscious and had stopped breathing.
The injured man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suffering significant head injuries and has been placed in an induced coma after undergoing emergency surgery.
His condition remains critical.
A crime scene was established and forensics police examined the house for evidence.
A number of people who had been at the house at the time of the incident have been providing statements to investigators overnight.
A 16-year-old male youth, from North Strathfield, has been arrested and is at Burwood Police Station where he is continuing to assist detectives with their investigation.
Local detectives are continuing their inquiries, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
