Police Commissioner officially opens new Orange Police Station
Date: 26/02/2009

Commissioner of Police Andrew Scipione, APM, will today join Minister for Police The Honourable Tony Kelly, MLC, to officially open the new Orange Police Station.

The two-storey building will replace the previous facility which saw officers based in five separate buildings.

Construction of the new $9.4m police station began in November 2007, and has been fully operational since November last year.

Orange Police Station is located on the ground floor of the new building, along with four holding cells, General Duties police, the Target Action Group, Highway Patrol, and custody officers.

The first floor features the Local Area Command office, the Task Force area, along with detectives, prosecutors, education officers, and administration.

Commissioner Andrew Scipione and Minister Kelly will attend the ceremony alongside Canobolas Local Area Commander Superintendent Mark Szalajko, who will host the official event.

Superintendent Szalajko has welcomed the opening of the modern facility and said it will enable officers to more effectively meet the policing needs of the local community.

“Today we see a first-class police station for all officers serving at the Canobolas Local Area Command.

“The new Orange Police Station now features a Task Force room dedicated to police investigations, along with modern conference facilities to ensure that officers are well-equipped to successfully investigate all local crimes.

“The new station will also feature a purpose-built exhibit area and a large modern custody facility, along with a training room to ensure officers are highly skilled and dedicated to tackling the policing needs of the local community, Supt Szalajko said.

Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has also welcomed the new station, saying, “The local community of Orange has a long and proud policing history.

“This new state-of-the-art police station will stand as a sign of the modern face of the NSW Police Force; marking the significant changes that have been made to policing in the area since first station was opened here in 1859.

“A state-of-the-art facility like this plays an important role in meeting the policing needs of the local community and ensuring the highest level of safety for all residents.

“The local community of Orange can be proud of their new station, as well as the dedicated policing staff who work within it,” Comm Scipione said.
