Man in court following robberies on taxi drivers - Redfern

A man has been arrested after he allegedly robbed two taxi drivers on separate occasions earlier this month in Redfern.
The first incident occurred about 9.50am on (Saturday) 14 February, when a taxi driver picked up a passenger in Young Street. The man entered the front of the taxi and allegedly produced a knife, demanding money. The 40-year-old taxi driver handed over an amount of cash and the man ran down Young Street.
The second robbery occurred about 3.35pm on (Wednesday) 18 February, when a taxi picked up a man in Redfern and drove him a short distance to Moorehead Street. The passenger allegedly threatened the driver with a syringe and demanded money. The driver handed the man a small amount of cash and he fled.
No one was injured during either robbery.
Following an investigation by Redfern detectives a 32-year-old Redfern man was arrested yesterday about 6pm at a house in Moorehead Street.
The man was taken to Redfern Police Station and was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Central Local Court later today.
