Police charge man and woman over malnourished horse death – Chifley
Date: 25/02/2009

A man and a woman will face court in relation to a horse found dead, allegedly due to severe malnutrition and emaciation.

On Thursday 12 February, Lithgow Detectives were called to a residence on Arden Street in Lithgow, after reports of a horse suffering extreme malnutrition through neglect.

On arrival police found the body of a 28-year-old gelding.

A veterinary surgeon conducted an examination of the horse and found it had died due to severe malnutrition and emaciation.

About 3pm on Tuesday 24 February a 61-year-old Lithgow man and a 56-year-old Lithgow woman were arrested and later charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and fail to provide veterinary care when required.

The pair was conditionally bailed to appear at Lithgow Local Court on 26 March. The bail is conditional on their abiding by any care directions given by the RSPCA in relation to other animals. Police intend to seek a court order preventing the pair from owning any animals in future.
