Man hospitalised after CBD assault

City Central Police established a crime scene in the CBD after a man suffered head injuries when assaulted early this morning.
The man was walking along Bathurst Street shortly after 1am when he was hit from behind by another man.
A passing taxi driver saw the victim collapsed on the footpath on Bathurst Street and rendered assistance.
The 22-year-old man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he is being treated for a serious cut to the back of the head.
An extensive crime scene was established along Bathurst Street, with one lane blocked for several hours as the area was searched; no weapon has yet been found.
All lanes re-opened about 6am.
