Police investigate truck crash – Newcastle
Date: 2/12/2008
Police are investigating a truck crash which left a number of major arterial roads in Newcastle closed for hours last night.
About 5:45pm a tow truck carrying a LPG gas tanker was travelling along the Newcastle Link Road, at the intersection of Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park, when it has failed to negotiate a roundabout.
As a result, the tanker unhinged itself from the tow truck and overturned onto the edge of the roadway. The tanker did not rupture during the incident.
Emergency services attended the scene and an exclusion zone was established.
To ensure public safety, a number of roads were closed during the salvage operation to right and remove the tanker from the roadside.
Roads closed during the incident include the north-and-southbound exits to the F3 Freeway, The Newcastle Link Road westbound, and Cameron Park Drive.
The area was declared safe after the tanker had been removed from the roadside, and all roads reopened about 9pm.
The driver was not injured in the incident.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident will continue today.
