Partial road closures on Pacific Highway following fatal crash – Heatherbrae
Date: 28/11/2008

Police investigating a fatal car crash near Port Stephens, north of Sydney, today are urging motorists to avoid the area.

At 3.05pm police and emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway at Heatherbrae, near the cross street of Kingston Parade, after reports of a two-car collision.

Inquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing; however initial inquiries suggest a north bound Holden Commodore being driven by a man has collided with a south bound Ford Falcon being driven by a man with two women and two girls on board.

As a result, both male drivers were trapped for about 40 minutes before being freed by State Emergency Service volunteers.

The driver of the Commodore died at the scene.

The driver of the Falcon was taken by helicopter to John Hunter Hospital suffering serious leg injuries. His condition is unknown.

The four female passengers in the Falcon were taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries. Their conditions are unknown.

The southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway are closed and traffic diversions are in place. It is expected that the diversions will remain in place for an extended period of time while Crash Investigation Officers examine the scene.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Raymond Terrace Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
