Man charged following hit-and-run incident – Newcastle CBD

Crash investigators have arrested and charged a man following a hit-and-run incident in central Newcastle earlier this month.
About 10.20pm on Tuesday 4 November, the male driver of a dark-coloured Toyota four-wheel-drive stopped outside a King Street hotel to pick-up four passengers.
It’s alleged the driver accelerated away from the hotel, performing a U-turn across two eastbound lanes at speed and mounting a median strip into the westbound lanes.
During the incident, a 21-year-old woman and a male passenger were ejected from the rear seat of the vehicle.
The woman was then run over before the four-wheel-drive left the scene.
She suffered critical head injuries as a result of the incident and underwent treatment in John Hunter Hospital.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 20-year-old Warners Bay man yesterday (Wednesday 19 November).
He was subsequently charged with a string of offences, including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, failing to stop and assist after impact causing grievous bodily harm, driving whilst disqualified, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 16 December 2008.
