Police seek public assistance following home invasion, armed raid – Hunter region
Date: 12/11/2008

Detectives in the Hunter region are seeking public assistance as they investigate links between a home invasion and armed robbery at a service station.

Two male offenders armed with knives threatened and demanded cash from staff at a service station on the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah, north of Newcastle, at 9pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 November).

They then left the store and approached a man and woman who’d stopped at the petrol station to refuel. The armed men intimidated the pair before stealing cash and leaving the scene in a blue Mazda Tribute station wagon, which was later found set alight at Raymond Terrace.

Police from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command attended the service station and conducted inquiries.

It’s believed the vehicle used by the offenders might have been stolen during a home invasion at North Lambton, near Newcastle, about four hours earlier.

During that incident, a man and two boys carrying knives forced entry to a Notley Street house about 5pm and threatened a couple inside.

The intruders demanded the man and woman, both aged 25, hand over their keys and wallets before tying them up. The offenders then fled the scene in the woman’s Mazda Tribute station wagon.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command responded to the incident and a crime scene was established. Forensics specialists also examined the scene.

The offenders have been described to investigators as being of Aboriginal appearance, one aged 20-25 years, and the others aged 14-16 years.

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
