13-year-old followed by vehicle – Belmont North

Police are conducting inquiries after a teenager was reportedly approached by three men in a car at Belmont North, south of Newcastle.
The 13-year-old boy was riding a bicycle along Violet Town Road about 3.45pm yesterday (Monday 10 November), when he was followed by a silver-green VR or VS model Holden Commodore.
On three occasions, the driver of the vehicle stopped and offered the boy a lift and he declined.
The vehicle then left the scene and the boy rode home and reported the incident to his father, who contacted police.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended the boy’s home and conducted inquiries. A canvass of the Violet Town Road area was also carried out.
The driver of the vehicle was described as being of white/European appearance, aged in his early 20s, with black straight short hair. The other occupants of the vehicle have not been described.
Parents are being urged to reinforce the ‘safe people, safe places’ message with their children.nnChildren should be encouraged by their parents to attend a police station, school, service station or shop if something happens.
nThey should also be warned not to get into a car with a person they do not know under any circumstance.
