Woman critically injured after Woman after hit-and-run incident - Newcastle

Police are searching for a motorist who ran over a young woman in central Newcastle and left her critically injured at the scene.
About 10.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 4 November), the male driver of a dark-coloured Toyota four-wheel-drive stopped outside a King Street hotel to pick-up four passengers.
The driver then accelerated away from the hotel, performing a U-turn across two eastbound lanes at speed and mounting a median strip into the westbound lanes.
During the incident, the 21-year-old woman and a male passenger were ejected from the rear seat of the vehicle.
The woman was then run over before the four-wheel-drive left the scene. It was last seen turning left into Steele Street.
Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command and the Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted inquiries.
The injured Belmont North woman was taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries and remains in a critical condition.
