Man shot by police - Belmont

Police from the Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have responded to an incident at a caravan park on the Pacific Highway at Belmont.
Shortly before 5pm two police officers attended the location after a report of a domestic assault.
Police were approached by a man believed to be in his 40s who was armed with a knife.
The man failed to comply with police directions to drop the knife and capsicum spray was deployed.
The man continued and was shot by police and subsequently died.
The circumstances of the incident will be fully investigated by a critical incident team and a report prepared for the information of the Coroner.
